Vela - School's in

Not to sound like a Killjoy, but ... having a new puppy is not just fun and games. It's a big responsibility. Fortunately we had alot of good help and advice at the Puppy School of Reinhard & Angie Hertig. They run their school with lot's of dog know-how, humor and a great teaching method – they're really great with the folks who come with their dogs. And I don't think Vela even noticed, that this was school!

Below are some photos, not all from the school - of course we also continued her training at home, which she now has adopted as her own:

Susanne and I continue according to the instructions from the Hertigs, but also with alot ideas from the books by Feltmann and Fichtlmeier. Susanne has also started tracking with Vela and has introduced a couple of things from Luna's Search & Rescue Training to get her used to using her nose. It's all quite interesting inasmuch as it's all done in a playful manner. And of course there are loads of hugs, licks and general fun-and-games to go around.

Today Vela had her first class at the Hertig's Junghund school. Because Vela is not our first dog, she's a little advanced as compared to some of the others, but that could change at any point. And the goal is not to be the best dog, but rather to be OUR best dog, which means it's not so much training her, but rather learning how to work with her. When we learn that, it'll all be alot easier - for all involved.
