This is a page for those who really either have nothing better to do with their time than look at Luna, or those who just are interested .. BTW, all photos on this page are thumbnails. Just click on them and you get a version you can actually see. Every day Luna and I go for several walks. Just a couple of houses away, we saw this sign on the street. For those visitors who don't speak German, it reads "Hurrah! We get to go to school!" Now Luna is a really smart, but either she didn't see this text, she couldn't read it or didn't understand it, because she does love to go to school! When we go for a walk, we always have to arrange to go past "Luna's Wall". This is a little wall about 1.5 feet tall, that she loves to jump up onto. I then give her a command at a distance to "sit", or "lie down". And then she gets a goodie. This is almost a ritual, one we do at the end of a walk. Just to be different, we did it today at the beginning. So ... after collecting the required praises, and more importantly, the goodies we move on. This is almost Fall and the fruit trees behind the village church have yielded quite abit. Luna, like so many others of her persuasion, is a gourmand. Meaning, she'll eat even things that are nailed down. But she will go miles out of her way for a three-week-old rotting dead bird or ... fallen fruit. Here she is stalking her prey, looking for especially juicy bits. I try to limit her to 3-4 plums, 2-3 pears, 3-4 apples and no more than 10 cherries per walk. Not an easy thing to do, considering how many fruit trees there are in the various farmers' fields. My mother always said to not go swimming right after eating. Maybe that's the reason Luna doesn't really swim ... since she's always eating, there no time to go when she HASN'T eaten. But she will go in the water to her tummy and then fish out a goodie, as long as she doesn't really have to swim for it. The only time I've ever seen her -not- go after a goodie was when the water was deep enough for her to actually have to swim. After a good swim, it's time to head on home. Often thing leads us to Luna's wall number 2. This is a long and high wall along the side of a supermarket. I would be afraid to walk that high off the ground, but while Luna might be a little stressed, she walks it with no hesitation and very deliberately. Head down and one foot in front of the other. Usually I don't have to even tell her to jump up. Somehow, I can't really believe she does it only for the goodie at the other end. She loves the challenge, the assignment, just like she loves going to normal training and Search & Rescue training. International Copyright © 2007 |
